Came across a great quote attributed to Bjarne Stroustrup (the inventor of C++) while reading the Python Tutor mailing list today:
"C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the foot;
C++ makes it harder, but when you do,
it blows away your whole leg."
Who said computer science guys can't be creative...
